Irish Casual Kilts

Irish kilts and Irish tartans are fairly recent modern inventions, but are no less important as a way of celebrating your Irish heratage. Irish kilts are becoming increasingly popular, and it's no wonder - everyone agrees that a good lookin' Irishman looks even better in a kilt!

The Casual Kilt is a great option if you want a nice looking kilt without spending as much money. Nearly identical in appearance to our formal kilts, casual kilts are machine stitched instead of hand stitched (less traditional, but in our opinion actually more durable), and made with less tartan. The average casual kilt is made from 5-6 yards of fabric compared to 8-9 yards in a formal kilt. The end result is a kilt with pleats that are shallower and wider, but still looks great. With less tartan, a casual kilt is lighter and more comfortable for all day wear.
Our casual kilts are made to order in Scotland, so please allow 8-12 weeks for delivery.

Premium Wool Irish Casual Kilts

Made from 100% pure new wool tartan, woven and made in Scotland. We use three different weavers/kiltmakers, depending on tartan availability: Strathmore, Lochcarron, and House of Edgar.

Light Weight Premium Wool Casual Kilt
KC011 – $350 List (catalog tartan lists A & B)
Made from light weight 10/11oz premium wool tartan. Makes a good kilt, and the light weight is especially nice for hot weather wear, but if your tartan is available, we recommend a medium weight kilt. NOTE – Most light weight Irish tartans are not woven with a kilting selvedge, so kilts will be hemmed. (It still looks great though. You won't know the difference). Made to order in Scotland with at least 4 yards of tartan.
Special order. Please allow 8-12 weeks for delivery. Hip sizes 48+ add $30. Hip sizes 56+ add $60.

Medium Weight Premium Wool Casual Kilt
KC013 – $375 (catalog tartan lists D & E)
Made from medium weight 12/13oz premium wool tartan. We always recommend a medium weight kilt if your tartan is available. Medium weight tartan will hang better and take a crisper pleat than light weight tartan, while still being light and comfortable to wear. It just makes a better all around kilt.
Made to order in Scotland with at least 4 yards of tartan. Special order. Please allow 8-12 weeks for delivery. Hip sizes 48+ add $30. Hip sizes 56+ add $60.

Add a matching standard fly plaid for only $95 ($10 savings)
Add a kilt hanger for only $5 ($5 savings) (more info)
Add matching flashes for only $35 ($10 savings)

Medium Weight Old & Rare Premium Wool Casual Kilt
KC13R– $550 (catalog tartan lists F)
Made from medium weight 12/13oz premium wool tartan. We always recommend a medium weight kilt if your tartan is available. Medium weight tartan will hang better and take a crisper pleat than light weight tartan, while still being light and comfortable to wear. It just makes a better all around kilt.
Made to order in Scotland with at least 4 yards of tartan. Special order. Please allow 8-12 weeks for delivery. Hip sizes 48+ add $30. Hip sizes 56+ add $60.

Heavy Weight Premium Wool Casual Kilt
KC16– $399 (catalog tartan lists G & H)
Made from heavy weight 15/16oz premium wool tartan. Pipe bands and military regiments love heavy weight tartan for it's durability, and the way it hangs and sways as you walk is impressive. If you really have your heart set on a heavy weight kilt though, you probably should not be buying a casual kilt. Spend the extra money and get a formal kilt - you will be glad you did.
Made to order in Scotland with at least 4 yards of tartan. Special order. Please allow 8-12 weeks for delivery. Hip sizes 48+ add $50. Hip sizes 56+ add $100.

How To Measure for Your Kilt:
1) Measure your waist size in inches at the navel (belly button). This is the traditional kilt waist.
Alternatively, many men prefer to wear their Casual Kilts at the pants waist. If this is what you choose, then measure comfortably around your waist where the top of your pants rest. Or, If you intend to wear your kilt mostly for formal occasions, and you have a bit more around the middle than you might like to have, you may want to measure a little higher than the navel to get over the crest of the "beer gut". The higher waist is more formal, but it will help your kilt stay up where it belongs.
2) Measure around your hips at the fullest point (usually 6-8 inches below the waist).
3) Measure from your waist (kilt waist or pants waist accordingly) to about the middle of the knee. This is usually best done with some help because if you bend over even a bit, your measurement will not be correct.
4) Your height.
