Formal Kilts

Made to order in Scotland (KF13W made in Wales) with a minimum of 8 yards of Premium Wool or Poly/Viscose Tartan. Hand–stitched pleats and lots of attention to detail make these some of the finest kilts in the world. We generally recommend a medium weight or heavy weight kilt. While there are more than 1,000 tartans to choose from, not all tartans are available in all weights. Because we work with 8 different woolen mills to bring you the largest possible selection, the kilts below are devided based on each suppliers price and availability. Premium Wool Formal Kilts

Woven and made to order in Scotland (KC13W made in Wales) from 100% new wool in your choice of light weight (11/12oz), medium weight (12/13oz) or heavy weight (15/16oz) tartan. Light weight wool makes a nice kilt, especially for hot weather wear. However, if your tartan is available in medium or heavy weight we generally recommend these weights for durability and crisper pleats.
Choose pleat to sett or pleat to stripe.
Hip sizes 46" - 53" add $40. Hip sizes 54" + add $70.

Heavy Weight Premium Wool Formal Kilt
KF016– $599 (catalog tartan lists G & H)
Made in Scotland from heavy weight 15/16oz premium wool tartan. Heavy weight kilts are more popular with bands and for very formal attire. The heavy weight tartan is more durable than any of the other tartans. Not all tartans are available in heavy weight. If you are a member of a pipes & drums band, you may want to check with your Quarter Master for the details of the weight, tartan and pleat option used in your band before ordering.

Welsh Medium Weight Premium Wool Formal Kilt ("Cilt")
KF13W – $599 (catalog tartan list N)
Made in Wales from medium weight 12/13oz premium wool tartan. The Welsh tartans do not have a selvedge edge, so kilts will be hemmed. Welsh tartans are woven a little looser, and have a softer feel than you will be used to if you are already familiar with Scottish tartans.
One extra, interesting option you have with a Welsh kilt is the option of having a small Welsh Dragon embroidered on the front apron of your cilt at no extra charge. Choice of plain red Welsh dragon, or red Welsh Dragon on a St. David's Cross.

Custom Weave Premium Wool Formal Kilt
KFCW – $750
There's currently over 3,700 registered tartans, but only about 1,400 of them are currently in production. If you don't see the tartan or family name you are looking for, most likely it's available in a custom weave. As members of the Tartan Authority, we have access to all of the registered tartans. You have a choice of medium weight (12oz) or heavy weight (15oz). Pleat to sett or stripe. Please allow extra time for the tartan to be woven before going to the kilt maker. Woven and made in Scotland.

Synthetic Blend Formal Kilts

Whether you are allergic to wool, or just want a great looking kilt for less, a synthetic blend is a great way to go! Hard wearing, washable (drycleaning is still recommended), and cool to wear, to the untrained eye our poly/viscose is nearly indistinguishable from expensive 100% wool tartan. These kilts are made in Scotland and constructed just like their premium wool counter parts. (poly/viscose is made without a selvedge edge, so kilts will be hemmed) With about 60 tartans available to choose from, our poly/viscose makes the most affordable Formal Kilts available!

Measuring Instructions:

(1) Measure comfortably around your middle, at your navel (belly button). This is your kilt waist. If you have a bit more around the middle than you might like to have (like I do), you may want to measure a little higher than the navel to get over the crest of the "beer gut". The higher waist will help your kilt stay up where it belongs.

(2) Measure around your hips at the fullest point (usually 6-8 inches below the kilt waist).

(3) Measure from your kilt waist to about the middle of the knee. Have someone help you. If you bend even a little while trying to do it yourself, the measurement will change.

(4) Your height.
